This may not sound like something a beauty editor would say, but I’ve never worn false eyelashes. So I said, To be honest, I think a lot of them are a little too fake for me, but I love lazy girl makeup, so most days I don’t feel like wearing makeup. But these days, they are designed to look more natural, so I decided to be ambitious and give DIY eyelash extensions a try. I wondered why not. You might become an eyelash extensions convert!
Well, I tried it out one night before an event and let’s just say it was a moment of serious expectation versus reality. Frankly, it was a minor disaster. And I realized that I very much need expert advice before trying this again. If you’re like me and struggle with eyelash extensions at home, keep reading. I enlisted the help of two experts.
How to apply eyelash extensions at home the *right* way
Celebrity makeup artist Judy Gabay and LashifyPro director Beau Nelson provided some fool-proof tips for applying eyelash extensions at home. I took strict notes to make sure it goes more smoothly next time I try these lashes.
1. Use a standing mirror: Both Gabay and Nelson consider this key.
“The easiest way I’ve found to apply it to myself is to use a standing mirror and hold the mirror upward towards your face,” says Gabay. “[This is]not looking straight into the mirror, but looking down. That way you can actually see where your lashes are going.”
Nelson adds, “With a little practice, DIY eyelash extensions are super easy to do at home. We recommend looking down in a mirror like Lashify’s LED Infinity Mirror to check your underlash and placement.” ” he added.
2. Make sure there is no oil in your eyes. “For maximum longevity, make sure your eyes and lashes are oil-free. Use a prep product like Lashify’s Pre-Cleanse Cleansing Water and brush it all over or over your lashes. For oily girls, an eyeshadow base can help,” says Nelson.
3. Be careful with your adhesive technique: Nelson says, “Make sure your adhesive technique is just right, not too much, not too little. Build a very thin layer of adhesive to maximize wear. I recommend applying 3 layers of glue and allowing the glue to dry for more than a minute or two in between, as over time the chemistry of your eyes will change. You’ll know what’s best for your reaction.”
4. Wait until the adhesive (or glue) is tacky before applying. Gabbay also recommends letting the glue or adhesive sit for one second before applying the lashes. “It’s a little more forgiving, and the lashes actually stay where you put them,” she says.
5. Use tweezers: This may seem obvious, but be careful here. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you can apply eyelashes with your fingers. If you apply your eyelashes with your fingers, they may not stick well or stick properly. Tweezers are also useful after applying eyelashes. Tweezers can be used to gently tighten the eyelashes to make them adhere more closely to your regular eyelashes.
6. Use brush-on adhesive instead of tube adhesive: Once you get used to applying eyelash extensions, Gabbay says you can create a more natural look by applying them under your regular lashes instead of over them. Masu. “In these cases, you may want to use a brush-on adhesive instead of a tube adhesive because the adhesive is more tacky and easier to apply under the lashes,” she says. “You don’t even have to wait for it to get sticky. It’s just already stuck.”
7. Placement is everything. “Another tip for longevity is placement. Don’t place it right at the waterline of your lower lash line, instead place it a millimeter to two millimeters above. It won’t be visible on your face at all. It will last several days longer than if you left it alone.” — Nelson
Eyelash extensions I tried: Kisfal Scala Special Edition Starter Kit
kiss
Falscala Special Edition Starter Kit
Honestly, this eyelash extension kit is amazing. When I first tried to apply them, I lacked the skills and know-how. I won’t take a picture because it’s lol, but it looked really beautiful and natural when I applied just a little bit. Glue dries fairly quickly, so you’ll have to work faster than with glue, but if you’re already a false eyelash pro, this might be easier.
I like that the kit comes in several sizes of lashes and also comes with a remover solution, so I can remove my lashes whenever I want. If you are new to eyelash extensions at home like me, you may need to try them out a few times before actually applying them, but otherwise the kit is very easy to use. It’s easy. Once you get the hang of it, I think you’ll really like it. Because it’s the most natural looking thing I’ve ever found. According to the brand, if you handle it with care and keep it in good condition, it can be reused. This kit also comes with a brush-on adhesive and sealing solution, so you don’t have to use anything else or apply a separate eyelash adhesive, which is another great benefit.
I would definitely say these are worth a try if you want to add a little lift, length and volume to your lashes but don’t mind the fakeness of the strips. These look great and are very easy to remove. All in all, I think it’s a great buy for $25.

“Lashify is my favorite eyelash extension brand. They are the originators of technology and have the best style. My personal favorite style is the Fluffy Lite Gossamer Lashes, which have a very natural look. They’re similar to your lashes, but better: Plush Gossamer lashes for a more glamorous voluminous style with nice curls, and Stardust Gossamer lashes for slightly wispier lashes. The style is particularly beautiful in chocolate color.” — Nelson.
