Heading into her first North American arena tour, Maggie Rogers has also decided to treat us to a new single.
The song was written last year and is the band’s first new music since releasing their third album, Don’t Forget Me, earlier this year. It’s an introspective piece filled with ’90s guitars and LeAnn Rimes-like vocal hooks, and it also comes with a new video directed by Grant Singer.
“I wrote ‘In the Living Room’ in March 2023, a few months after I wrote ‘Don’t Forget Me,'” McGee said of the song. “Co-writer/producer Ian Fitchuk and I decided to go back to the studio and try one more song. Like most of the album, this song is about the beauty and pain of memory and life. It’s a song about how we become intertwined with reality when we’re processing someone’s breakup. Ultimately, Don’t Forget Me is about how we remember people and the process of creating a new reality. It’s an album about the stories we tell ourselves.
“In the Living Room” is released ahead of Maggie’s upcoming Don’t Forget Me Tour, which kicked off last night in Austin, Texas. Listen to her new single and check out her upcoming US shows below.
