PERINGTON, N.Y. (WHAM) — Lollipop Farm is in dire need of donations of one critical resource as winter approaches.
Lollipop’s Community Pet Pantry shelves may seem full right now, but dry dog food is completely gone.
“We posted the petition in the hope that the community would donate and come back into the community to help those who are suffering,” said Katie Donahue, Intake and Resource Counselor at Lollipop Farm. he said.
Pantries play a huge role in getting pet food to those who need it.
“This pantry is for people who have pets who are in financial need or who don’t have transportation to get food,” Donahue said.
Anyone can access Pet Pantry by filling out a simple request form.
Donahue said fall is typically a time when supplies are tight.
“Kids are going back to school, going back to college, so families are probably not making as much income as they used to,” Donahue said. . ”
This year alone, the shelter has distributed about 47,000 pounds of food to about 11,000 families.
Donahue says she hopes their pleas for help fall on deaf ears.
“Fortunately, our community is great, so when we post a plea to say we’re looking for food, people respond right away,” Donahue said. “But we always receive new applications, so collecting donations all the time helps us support new people who may be in need.”
