A Newton interior designer was hired by the City Council to recommend furniture, decor, paint choices and other design options for the new clubhouse at Westwood Golf Course. The Newton City Council voted 6-0 on Oct. 7 to sign a 120-hour contract at $35 an hour.
Christine Pletcher DeZign is a Newton-based commercial and residential interior design firm that will work with the city for discounted rates with no upkeep or mark-ups on products. Pletcher will be able to get high-quality furniture at wholesale prices, and plans to pass the savings on to the city.
The City Council package included a virtual tour showcasing some of her past work at Emory North Liberty Apartments, Emory Clubhouse in Altoona, community spaces at Attivo Trail Apartments in Waukee, and more. The city said her services are affordable and fill a gap in staff expertise.
According to a copy of the agreement, the city will provide Pletcher with electrical needs, flooring selections, paint and stain selections, furniture, art and decor recommendations, budget assistance, case merchandise, trades and furniture. Final stages of layout and installation of decorations may be requested.
City Councilman Randy Irvin said. Let’s continue to move forward with the clubhouse. ”
