Whatcom County, Wash. (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Halloween week is here. Put the finishing touches on your costume, play spooky music on the turntable, restock the candy, and choose the perfect pumpkin to transform into a jack-o-lantern. Ready or not, there are plenty of fun activities planned throughout Whatcom County this weekend.
Looking for some fun at Birch Bay? This Saturday, October 26th, the Birch Bay Trick-or-Treat Celebration in Birch will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. The whole family will enjoy an afternoon of trick-or-treating and other activities hosted by the Friends of Friends. Birch Bay Library and Blaine Birch Bay Parks and Recreation.
There will also be costume contests in multiple categories, including little kids (ages 0-6), big kids (ages 7-12), teens and adults (ages 13 and up), duos or groups, so don’t forget to dress up before you head to the venue. Please make sure it is appropriate. .
If you and the kids are looking for something a little more sedate, head to First Congregational Church in Bellingham. They are hosting a trunk-or-treat event Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. It’s full of treats, decorated trunks, and, of course, a world of fun.
The First Congregational Church is located at 2401 Cornwall Ave., followed by easy access to the Lettered Street and Sunnyland neighborhoods for extracurricular activities and good old trick-or-treating.
Parents are probably tired from trick-or-treating on Saturday afternoon, so why not take the kids to Fairhaven for a treat?
Get creative with Stone’s Throw Brewery’s Crave a Beer, Carve a Pumpkin event. Sip a beer while cutting pumpkins on display at Fairhaven Trick-or-Treat on Thursday, October 31st.
“Crave a Beer, Carve a Pumpkin” will be held Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. This is a free event for all ages, and pumpkins and carving tools will be provided.
If you haven’t had enough of dogs by Sunday, October 27th, check out the 3rd Annual Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade in downtown Bellingham. This dog costume contest is a fundraiser for Shadow’s Forever Friend’s Zoe Fund. That means helping low-income people pay for emergency veterinary care.
Register your dog for the parade, which begins at noon, and prizes will be awarded for the best group costume and best individual costume. This year’s judges include people from Paws for a Beer, Shadow’s Forever Friends, and Confident Canine Puppy Training. Shake and Shine Kanin Wash and Deli is also celebrating its 10th anniversary.
The Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade begins at the corner of Railroad and Champion and runs from noon to 3 p.m. Donations are accepted.
Of course, Halloween falls on Thursday this year, and there are some fun musical events to check out.
Wild Buffalo will be hosting a Skaraoke Halloween Karaoke Party starting at 9 p.m. Show off your costume and take the stage to sing your favorite song. Don’t worry if you’re nervous. Buff’s friendly staff creates a supportive and fun atmosphere where you can showcase your skills or deficiencies.

This week’s featured live show will also be held on Halloween night. Black Eyes and Ties are reuniting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their album Stiletto.
This iconic Bellingham goth-punk band will be showing off their outfits along with Cassoholics and Venenosm at Shakedown. The show starts at 9pm and tickets can be purchased at shakedownbellingham.com.
