Whatcom County, Wash. (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The first weekend of October is here. Along with that comes a host of events across Whatcom County, from model trains to documentaries to a Pacific Northwest seafood festival. So find a seat, grab a bib, and silence your phone.
The Pickford Film Center, located in Bellingham’s downtown arts district, opens this weekend. Every year, Pickford spends a month celebrating documentary films from around the world. This weekend’s lineup looks special.
Linda Perry: Let It Die This chronicles the journey of Linda Perry, former lead singer of For None Blondes who went on to write hits for Adele, Alicia Keys, Dolly Parton and more It’s a movie that did. The film No Other Land, produced by the Palestinian-Israeli community, documents the destruction of Masafah Yatta in the West Bank and the friendship between Palestinian activists and Israeli journalists. First to Bomb New Mexico examines the impact on Native American and Hispanic communities in the years following the United States’ first atomic bomb test in New Mexico.

After watching the documentary and working up an appetite, head to Bellingham’s waterfront for some seafood. Bellingham Seafeast will be held at Squalicum Harbor and Zuanich Point on Saturday, October 5th and Sunday, October 6th. KGMI spoke to Kevin Coleman, the man behind the festival, to learn more about this year’s event.
SeaFeast features all the seafood caught in the Salish Sea, Puget Sound, and beyond. There will be food stalls, a beer and cider garden, a seafood market along the docks, and the Lummi Nation’s traditional barbecued salmon feast. It’s not just about food, though. There will also be live music, art sales, educational booths and a pinball tournament.
SeaFeast will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit bellinghamseafeast.org.
Are you or someone you know a fan of model trains? The Linden Lions Club’s 39th Annual Model Train and Toy Show will also be held this weekend. Head over to the Henry Jansen AG Building at the NWW Fairgrounds and check out the many model trains, toy layouts, exhibits, and vendors.
The model train and toy show is free for children under 6, only $5 for children 6-12, and $8 for adults. It will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit lyndentrainshow.com.
This weekend’s featured live show is an eclectic, moody event at Shakedown in downtown Bellingham on Saturday.
Ben von Wildenhaus, former guitarist for iconic Bellingham garage rock revivalists Federation X, will perform songs from his latest album, Everything in Flower, with vocalist Billy Bloom. Von Wildenhaus opens with “Painted Pills and The Phonebooks.”
