The Humboldt Harmonaires, a local barbershop choir, will perform its annual fall show, “Beer and Peanuts,” at the Eureka Woman’s Club, 1531 J Street, Eureka, on Friday from 7 p.m.

grunge breakfast
Humboldt Grange No. 501 will host its final breakfast of the season from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grange Hall, 5845 Humboldt Hill Road, Eureka.
The menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage (patties or links), biscuits, gravy or “all you can eat” pancakes, plus coffee, tea and juice. wetland working day
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will hold a “Wiggi Swamp Volunteer Day” from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Volunteers will help restore some of the bay trails by creating native bird-friendly habitat and removing invasive plants and trash. This month, participants will also clear selected areas of most weeds and spray native wildflower seeds.
The trail section will be located behind Bayshore Mall in Eureka, and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart. The Audubon Society will provide tools, gloves and packaged snacks, and volunteers should bring drinking water. For more information, please email Susanpenn60@gmail.com.

The Redwood Area Audubon Society will host free guided field trips at the Arcata Wetland Wildlife Refuge from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Bring your binoculars and meet trip leader Janelle Chozinacki at the end of South I Street (Crop Lake) in Arcata to enjoy stunning views of Humboldt Bay, easy trails, and a wide variety of birdlife.
Tour the swamp
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor free tours of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Refuge on Saturday.
Attendees will meet with leader Barbara Reisman in the lobby of the Arcata Wetlands Interpretive Center on South G Street at 2 p.m., and will focus on wetland history, wastewater treatment through natural processes, native and exotic plants, and more. Go for a 90 minute walk. This event will be held rain or shine. For more information, call 707-826-2359.
Bird watching walk
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will host a southern Humboldt birdwatching walk Saturday morning.
This walk includes several miles of gentle walking through riparian, meadow, and mixed hardwood forests, with a variety of bird species depending on the season. Jays, spruces, woodpeckers, and several species of raptors are present year-round.

bird watching hike
Redwood Area Audubon Society and trip leader Ken Barton will present a trip to the Humboldt Bay NWR L’Inferre Dunes Unit on Sunday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
This birding hike takes place in non-public areas of the reserve, including marshes, riparian forests, dune forests, restored dunes, dune cavities, and marine coastal habitats. Participants hike several miles, most of it on sand.
To participate, meet Burton (shrikethree@gmail.com) at Pacific Union Elementary School in Arcata and carpool to the shelter. All participants must carpool and stay for the entire outing. No RSVP is required.
breakfast and books
The Trinidad Lions Club will hold its final breakfast and book sale of the year at Trinidad School on Sunday from 8am to 11am.
The menu includes a choice of pancakes and eggs, sausage or ham, biscuits, gravy and eggs, and a drink. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
The book sale includes a large selection of westerns, mysteries, romance novels, children’s books, and more. Books cost between 25 and 50 cents. Proceeds benefit schools, community and youth causes.

The dance party, featuring live music and a “great floor,” is held every Monday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road in Eureka. Admission is $9.
