Two special pets, Leia and Catalina, are waiting for loving homes at the Broward County Humane Society in Fort Lauderdale. Each has a unique story.
Leia
Leia (ID 506615) is a 10-year-old cat who recently lost her only friend. She is lonely and shy and doesn’t know what will happen next. At 17 pounds, Leia knows she may not be the first to get noticed, but she hopes someone will give her the chance she needs. It may take some time for them to get used to it, but once they do, they will enjoy the attention and will start chatting when it’s time to eat.
Leia prefers a quiet environment and gets along well with other cats and small dogs as long as they are introduced slowly. She is an easy-going girl who appreciates the simple pleasures in life, such as relaxing in a quiet place and playing with the right toys. Leia may be a big cat, but she’s desperate to be loved again and is looking for a comfortable, well-cared for home for her golden years.
Introducing Catalina:
Catalina (ID 687965) is a cute 7-month-old puppy who wonders why she keeps being ignored. Although she is not a purebred, her heart is full of love and she is ready to show it to the right family. Although shy at first, Catalina has made great progress with the help of volunteers who have watched her grow into a more confident and affectionate dog.
This cheerful young girl knows some basic commands and is also responsive to Spanish. She likes soft treats and attention, and may sneak in a kiss or two if she’s in the mood. Walking on a leash still requires effort, but the right harness will help keep them focused. Katarina wants to become part of a loving family and create many happy memories together.
If you’re considering adoption, now is the perfect time to make a difference in the lives of animals in need.
Leia, Catalina and many other pets are waiting for their forever homes at the Broward County Humane Society, located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312. The adoption kennel opens at 11 a.m. and the vaccine clinic is open six days a week, free of charge. Reservations required.
