It’s unclear whether numerous reports of traffic being diverted off Interstate 264 Thursday evening are related to the incident in Virginia Beach.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Vice presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance traveled to Virginia Beach on Thursday for a political fundraiser.
Around 5:40 p.m., former U.S. Rep. Scott Taylor, D-Virginia Beach, posted on social media that Vance was “landing in Virginia Beach soon.” At 4:33 p.m., Trump posted a photo of himself in front of Trump and Vance’s plane on social media, saying they were “on their way to Virginia Beach.”
Taylor revealed last Sunday and on social media that he was hosting a fundraiser for former President Donald Trump’s campaign and would be joined by “special guest Sen. J.D. Vance.”
The event flyer listed Bruce Thompson and Bryce McFerran as other organizers of the fundraiser, which was private and closed to the media.
“This is shaping up to be the most profitable fundraiser for a federal candidate that I’ve ever heard of in Virginia Beach,” he said.
Around 6 p.m. Thursday, Interstate 264 was closed for a period of time, traffic was diverted off the interstate, and state traffic cameras along the interstate were also turned off.
13News Now reached out to the Virginia State Police, the Virginia Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Secret Service to see if they could provide any insight or connections regarding the fundraiser. No reply yet.
