TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Travel insurance is one way you and your family can protect your upcoming vacation trip from unexpected problems.
Allstate agent Brian Green said travel insurance can help cover expenses such as medical emergencies and airfare.
“Airlines are now transporting a lot of people and a lot of baggage. They do their best to provide great service, but sometimes the ball drops, and that’s why we pay for insurance. That’s why I joined,” Green said. “You have cancellation insurance in case your luggage gets lost or something happens, and you might run out of money for a hotel. All of that can add up quickly.”
When does it make sense for you and your family to purchase a plan? Greene says if you’re driving interstate or flying between U.S. businesses, you typically don’t have to pay for anything. He said there was no such thing.
“If you’re traveling interstate, you can get cancellation insurance through your airline, and it’s probably the cheaper option to go that way,” Green said. “I think it’s probably okay in the U.S. I really want to look into that, especially when traveling to Mexico or overseas.”
Green said while budgeting is a concern, especially during the holidays, it’s important to consider what you could potentially lose.
“Tell me about your plans and how long you’ll be gone. Surprisingly affordable, especially considering the amount of money you’d invest in a trip where you’d pay a few hundred dollars to secure a trip of a few thousand dollars.” said Mr. Green.
If you or your family want to consider travel insurance, talk to your local insurance agent, and as you start searching for options online, be sure to read the fine print.
