What made you start interior design?
It all started in a small town in the 80’s. This was long before I knew anything about interior design. At the time, I was just a creative kid with a deep love for art, an amazing talent for math, and a passion for helping others. Little did I know that these seemingly unrelated interests would eventually lead me to my true calling.
Ever since I was a child, I felt a strong urge to connect with people, understand their needs, and guide them towards achieving their dreams. Creativity was in my blood, so once I went to a big university, I found myself drawn to art, but interior design didn’t interest me at first. That all changed midway through my college years. I had what I like to call a “light bulb moment.” Suddenly, everything clicked into place. Interior design was the perfect amalgamation of everything I love. Without hesitation, I pivoted from fine art to interior design and dove headfirst into this exciting new field. And from that moment on, there was no looking back.
How would you describe your style and ethos?
It’s timeless and classic, with an emphasis on texture. I believe that texture adds depth and warmth to a space, making it feel more lived-in. It’s important to layer materials, mix old and new, and make sure every element has its place and purpose.
At the core of my ethos is a commitment to understanding my clients on a personal level. I strive to create an environment that not only meets their needs, but also enhances their daily lives. Whether it’s a quiet retreat or a vibrant family home, my goal is to create spaces that stand the test of time, yet tell a story that resonates deeply with the people who live there.
What kind of materials do you like to work with?
I’m drawn to materials that have a natural, timeless quality. Texture plays an important role in my designs, so I often lean toward elements like reclaimed wood, natural stone, and linen. These materials bring a sense of warmth and authenticity to the space, giving it an organic yet sophisticated feel.
I also love incorporating materials that tell a story, like aged brass that develops a beautiful patina over time, or vintage textiles that add personality and history to a room. For me, it’s about creating a tactile experience that touches the senses and makes the space feel truly lived in and loved.
