ADA, Okla., October 15, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The LegalShield Consumer Stress Legal Index, a survey that tracks approximately 150,000 calls each month from ordinary Americans seeking legal assistance, CSLI) rose in September, marking its third rise. This was a consecutive monthly increase following July’s record high for the first time in 22 years.
Stress in battleground states has remained stable, going from slightly above the national average to slightly below it in August. The movement of the two stress trendlines indicates a close presidential election.
“Following July’s unprecedented surge, the financial burden on consumers across the country has further increased, with consumers still strapped for cash,” said Matt Layton, senior vice president of consumer analytics at LegalShield. It shows what we are facing.” “Economic factors have a significant impact on election outcomes. For the past five presidential elections, our predictive data has been clear by October. At this point, our analysis shows that the race is far from over. has shown to be too close.”
Legal Shield’s CSLI in September was 68.0, an increase of 0.3 points from August and a 4.0% increase compared to the same month last year.
Battleground stress will determine White House election
“With the election approaching, stress in battleground states is approaching national stress levels even more closely than we’ve seen since the index’s inception in 2002,” Leighton said. “Battlefield stress has moved above and below the national index by small margins over the past three months.”
In each presidential election since 2004, battleground states have experienced higher levels of stress in October and November than the national average and elected Republicans. When stress in battleground states was lower than the nation, Democrats won.
“It is important to remember that our data is based on actual calls made by ordinary Americans seeking legal assistance for a variety of financial issues,” Leighton said. “This is not a poll driven by debate or headlines.”
Layton added: “The consumer finance sub-index for battleground states is up 11% since June. It shows that we are dealing with it.”
the story continues
For the purposes of this data analysis, the battleground states in 2024 are Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Battlefield stress remained unchanged in September at 67.8, and is currently 0.2 points below the national index. In August, stress in battlegrounds was 0.1 percentage points higher than the national level.
Housing is a major stress factor
“Many homeowners and renters continue to struggle to make ends meet and are now seeking help,” said Kevin Almeros, president of Deming Parker LLC, a Georgia legal shield provider. “A growing number of households are feeling cost-burdened, paying more than 30% of their monthly income to cover housing costs.Hopefully, recent interest rate cuts and slowing inflation will stimulate homebuyer demand and lead to more We hope this will bring more sellers to the market and help stabilize housing prices.” Housing Prices and Rentals. ”

The three sub-indices were mixed in September.
The bankruptcy sub-index rose 0.8 points to 33.1, an increase of 17.1% year-on-year.
