Annie Elliott from the US took to social media to head to her local IKEA store and tell her fans what to avoid buying.
She stopped first to look at a floor lamp with upright lamp and reading light for just £12.
But she warned people never to buy it, adding: “Literally, this is the worst. Don’t buy it. It’s so ugly.”
She said the reflections from the ceiling lights made the lighting in any room unattractive, and reading lights were never used.
Annie also hated the fluffy bath mats that cost £20, saying they were too big especially for her apartment and were harder to wash than towel mats.
Last but not least, the interior designer said she wouldn’t use Digintet’s 14-pound curtain wire to use as additional storage for things like jewelry and glasses.
She revealed that although it was very difficult to install and had to hire a professional, the winning point was that it was budget-friendly.
Annie captioned the post: “Please don’t buy this floor lamp!! And let’s also talk about bath mats and wall hangings.”
The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @annieelliottdesign, where it has been viewed more than 6 million times.
One person wrote, “It’s cheap and can emit light, so it’s all you need when you’re on a budget (lol).”
Kelly Hoppen shares top design tips
Another commented: “Sorry ma’am. My Ikea lamp doesn’t need to hear you say bad things about him. He’s right next to me.”
“Those lamps – it’s a lesson we all learn. I agree 100% about bath mats and floor towels,” wrote a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth said, “Annie, I have all these items. You’re going to kill me here.”
Trends interior designers hate
If you want your home to look stunning, here are some trends that interior designers can’t resist.
Yellow is a no-no: According to Bilal Rehman, painting your bedroom yellow is a big no-no.
“If you want everyone to know you’re a horse girl, yellow is the color for you.”
SIGN OFF: Kelly Hoppen shared her honest thoughts about the Live, Love, Laugh sign.
The interior professional explained: “My other complaint is Living, Laughing, Loving. Things like trees on bookshelves and floating shelves, that was 10, 12, 15 years ago.”
Gray is no good: Julie Provenzano explained that gray interiors are overkill.
She emphasized, “We took something good and overdid it, and now it’s as basic as copy and paste.”
“You’re not invited to my house. I’m afraid you’ll disrespect all the decorations in my house,” a fifth woman claimed.
Another added: “Then tell me what I should buy.”
