A woman took to Reddit to ask if she was wrong for taking home the birthday cake she bought for her nephew and causing so much family drama in the process.
“I (30th floor) was asked by my sister (35th floor) to buy a birthday cake for her 9 year old nephew’s party,” she begins her post.
“I was really excited and chose a Minecraft pig cake because it’s his favorite game and animal. The cake was bright pink because that’s the color of pigs in the game.”
The woman said she arrived at her sister’s house early with a cake to “have a drink and relax” before the children arrived.
She brought a box of “canned fruity vodka water” called “Mum Water.” This looks like soda water, but it’s not carbonated.
“I didn’t think it would be a problem.”
A woman took back her nephew’s birthday cake after her brother-in-law criticized her. reddit
“My sister said the cake looked delicious, so I put some drinks in the fridge before I opened it to enjoy until she was ready,” she continued.
“A few minutes later, my brother-in-law (35M) came into the kitchen and without noticing me immediately started criticizing the cake. He claimed it should have been blue because it was for boys. “I knew what I was going to do,” he said. I was caught off guard and didn’t know what to say.
“He was acting like the color of the cake was a big deal, but to me it seemed like a minor thing, especially since the party was supposed to be about my nephew. I don’t get to see you very often, so I wanted the day to go smoothly.”
“My sister blamed me for ruining his drinking.”
She said she usually tries to avoid conflict with her brother-in-law because she doesn’t want to stress her sister. He has been through a lot, including having “serious problems with alcohol” despite being sober for seven years.

“At this point, I felt disrespected and decided that if he didn’t appreciate the cake I bought, then I didn’t have to eat it.” My sister ignored him and helped her in the living room. “I asked for it,” she continues.
“I quietly took the cake to my car and drove home. I didn’t check my phone right away and waited a moment before calling my sister. When I did, she immediately picked me up and cried. Apparently, my brother-in-law drank all six bottles of Mum Water without knowing that it was alcoholic, and got drunk in front of the other parents who were at the party.
“My sister was upset and accused me of ruining his drinking by not telling her that the drink was alcoholic. I feel guilty about what happened and I understand why she’s upset, but I honestly find it hard to believe that he didn’t know there was alcohol in the drink. I think it might have been.”

She then asks the internet to consider the confusing situation and decide whether she is wrong.
The top commenter claimed that she was the worst in this situation, but not for the reason you might think.
They said: Not because you bought a cake or brought drinks (unless you knew or were told not to bring alcohol into the house) Not because your BIL got drunk (you shouldn’t bring alcohol into the house) (unless you knew about it). After taking the first few sips, he was fully aware that the drink contained alcohol.
“YTA for bringing the cake. You punished and punished your nephew because your nephew’s father was a terrible person to you. You brought a cake to your 8-year-old’s birthday party. I left him without anything. That was terrible.”
Another agreed. Children will remember it forever. There was no problem leaving, just leave the damn cake. So they have it. ”
But this person saw it differently and said: Cake is the least of that child’s problems. The mother is a successful person and is blaming the wrong person. ”
And this person voted for “ESH”, which means “everyone here sucks”. Sure, his father is a terrible drunk, but now the child knows he can’t count on you either. Besides, your sister is a coward. ”
