SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some airports across the United States are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Milton, including San Diego International Airport.
Many travel sites checked by ABC 10News Friday morning showed only a few options for nonstop flights from San Diego to Florida.
There are even more options for those who want to stop along the way.
Reporter Moses Small spoke to Joe, a tourist from Florida, who said he was lucky his family home wasn’t damaged while he was traveling to San Diego during the storm.
“It was great. My wife came home so she had to deal with it,” Joe said. “Before we left, I battened everything down and closed all the rain hatches and everything. But she did a great job, and that’s the best part and what’s really important.”
Joe said the flight was scheduled for earlier this week but was delayed because of the storm.
People are still reeling because Milton was Florida’s third hurricane so far this year. It also broke the record for the fastest storm to strengthen to Category 5, but it ultimately made landfall Wednesday as a Category 3 storm.
ABC 10News also spoke to Jeanne Redlinger, who lives in Encinitas but fell into Milton’s trap while visiting her son in Orlando.
Redlinger said he saw Milton uprooting trees and cutting off power, but he was unharmed.
“For me, this was my first time and it was scary to be in a place where I could be killed or hurt,” Redlinger said. “But our son had been through this several times before and we were confident he would be OK.”
Redlinger said she is planning a flight home this weekend.
Meanwhile, many of Florida’s airports reopened Friday morning after several days of closure.
There are still several families with roots in San Diego who need help after Milton, including Gino’s family. Click here for more information on how you can help Gino’s family.
