Hulu is set to premiere a new limited series, “Interior Chinatown,” based on Charles Yu’s award-winning novel. The show follows Willis Wu (Jimmy O. Yang), an aspiring actor, who gets stuck playing a background role in a fictional police procedural called “Black and White.”
“Nothing changes in Chinatown,” Willis explains in the trailer, underscoring the stagnant reality in which he feels trapped. However, things change when he witnesses a crime and is thrust into the spotlight and a web of mystery.
Chloe Bennet plays Lana Lee, a detective who works with Willis to uncover the truth. “Something is happening in Chinatown,” she warns in the trailer. The series also features a talented ensemble cast, including Ronnie Chen (The Daily Show) as Fatty Choi, Lisa Gilroy, Sullivan Jones, Archie Kao, and Diana Lin.

The trailer combines elements of mystery and action, with Willis declaring that “kung fu can break out at any moment,” which is immediately followed by a fight scene with Chen’s character.
Yu, who also serves as showrunner, describes the series as “starting out as something familiar (a police procedural), then spiraling into a quirky heroic fantasy, trampling every stereotype along the way.”
