Believe it or not, the ruffle trend is back. Decorating your home with ruffles is a fun and affordable way to add new design to your living space, as long as you don’t go overboard. House Digest spoke exclusively with Julie Jones, California certified interior designer and founder of Julie Jones Designs, about the return of the ruffle trend.

According to Jones, there are many easy ways to add ruffled accents to your home. “Cushions are an inexpensive and temporary way to incorporate ruffles into your decor,” says Jones. “Bed skirts are another way to add ruffles. If a bed skirt is the only ruffle in the room, I don’t think there’s any risk of overdoing it.” But what is the trend for overdoing ruffles? And how can I avoid this mistake?

Keeping up with the latest trends (like the unexpected ’90s design trends that are making a bold comeback and the resurgence of ruffles) is a great way to update your home decor. However, there is a danger of going too far if you are not careful.

“If you have a lot of frilly things in a room, like accent chairs, curtains, pillows, etc., you won’t be able to make them unique and distinct,” says Jones. “Too many of the same textures will create a very niche “There is a possibility that you will be put in that category,” he said. She says that Grand Millennial and Cottage Core styles allow you to include more ruffled textures in your room, but adding multiple ruffled items to other room decor styles is overkill. “It’s like a room with too much of a good thing. I like leopard print, but I’m not going to put leopard print on more than one thing in my room. It’s too unique and I don’t want it to be unique or original.” ”

Trends tend to fade away. The most popular home decor trends from the decade you were born are likely to come back in style. Or maybe it’s already trending. You’re probably asking yourself if it’s worth the investment to add frills if you’re going to end up without a house.

Explaining her thoughts on the longevity of the ruffles trend, Jones said, “If there’s one thing I’ve seen in my career, it’s that history repeats itself. I grew up in the ’80s and ’90s. But there were frills everywhere.” she said. “When it comes to our clothing, curtains, and furniture, as soon as something goes too far, it quickly dies out as a trend. So if it continues to grow in popularity again, it will be a trend that will be time-stamped in 2024.” It may quickly become outdated, but it’s important to make sure your home is a space you love. If you love ruffles, keep an eye out for the return of the ruffle trend.
