Relocating orphaned pets will allow dispatch shelters to focus on emergency response for pets of local families displaced by the storm.
HARRISBURG, Pa. — As a second historic hurricane hits Florida, the Harrisburg Area Humane Society (HSHA) joins the Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) to help rescue animals fleeing storm-ravaged areas in the South. Preparations are underway to secure a space for the event.
To provide a home for animals fleeing devastation, the Harrisburg Area Humane Society is waiving adoption fees for all large adult dogs and cats until Oct. 16.
Every adoption provides space for an animal in need.
The BVSPCA is welcoming more than 20 cats brought to its Westchester campus from a Florida shelter in the path of Hurricane Milton on Wednesday, October 9th. All of these cats had been adopted out at shelters in the South before leaving the path of Hurricane Milton. storm.
Relocating orphaned pets will allow dispatch shelters to focus on emergency response for pets of local families displaced by the storm.
“As soon as we saw the devastation left in Helen’s wake and the potential path of Hurricane Milton, we began preparing,” said HSHA & BVSPCA CEO Adam Lamb. “Like many shelters across the country, space at our shelter is limited, but in times of crisis our community comes together to support our disaster response expertise and help those in need. We know we can answer the call to help more animals.”
