With one week left in the 2024 US presidential election cycle, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are making their final pitches to voters across the country, especially in battleground states.
The vice president is scheduled to deliver his “closing argument” at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., where the infamous “Fight Like Hell” speech was delivered on January 6, 2021.
In her remarks, she is expected to label her political opponents as “unstable” and “obsessed with revenge.” People started lining up about three hours before the event started.
The incident comes as President Trump continues to face the fallout from Sunday’s controversial rally at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico “trash.” It was described as a floating island. President Trump spoke in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, telling supporters that “no president has ever done more for Puerto Rico.”
At a separate event earlier in the day, he described the gathering at MSG as an “absolute love fest.”
Campaigning in Georgia on Monday, the former president said former first lady Michelle Obama had been “mean” in her recent criticism and ominously warned that she made a “big mistake” in doing so.

I think it’s called Puerto Rico,” a cascade of negative reactions quickly spiraled out of control.
Alex Woodward reflects on how, despite President Trump’s long history of overtly offensive comments, the joke may have gone a step too far.
