The Hancock County Humane Society and SPCA shared some Halloween pet safety tips during a recent appearance on 100.5 WKXA’s Wet Nose Wednesday segment.
Natalie Reffitt of the Humane Society brought her dog Emmett (pictured) to talk with WKXA’s Rex Howard about keeping pets safe during Halloween events.
As Natalie said in the audio above, dressing up your pet is fine as long as they’re OK with it, but there’s no need to force them to wear something uncomfortable.
When trick-or-treaters come to your door, it’s a good idea to put your pet in another room or behind a gate so they can’t escape while the door is open.
And to keep candy out of your pet’s reach, she says, and to be careful about throwing away half-eaten candy bars, as your dog might find them in the trash can and eat them. .
The Hancock County Humane Society and SPCA is located at 4550 Fostoria Avenue in Findlay.
