A group of Filipino gamers founded a jogging club to promote running and exercise in their community.
According to Nico Waje’s report on Sunday’s “24 Oras Weekend,” Gamer’s Run Club, founded by content creator and gamer Bianca Yao, aims to encourage gamers and influencers to live healthier, more active lifestyles. The purpose is
Bianca, who spends eight hours gaming on her computer, said she sometimes finds it difficult to get up from her gaming chair.
“May counting activity ran ako na gagawin hingal na ako,” she said.
According to endocrinologist Dr. Nemencio Nicodemos Jr., this sedentary lifestyle is unhealthy.
“Sitting is the new smoking. Diabetes kapag mas matagal na nakaupo hindi kumikiros ang buong katawan, mataas ang tsansa na magkaroon ng sakit sa puso.” he said.
Nicodemus also encouraged the public to stop sitting and stand up or jog on the spot.
“It’s as simple as jogging in place, lang, tayoka, rakadoka, for five minutes every 30 minutes,” he said.
Pro DOTA player Carlo “Kuku” Palad admitted that he joined a jogging club because he knew his habits weren’t good for him.
“‘Yon lifestyle ko hindi ganong ka healthy kaya ta try ko sumari sa ganito,'” he said.
Meanwhile, content creator John Paolo Son knows the benefits of becoming more active after losing more than 10 kilograms through running and working out.
“This community has helped us a lot in taking Kumbaga Ma Push Pa further in our ‘young fitness journey’,” he said.
