More than 390 shelters in 44 states are participating, including Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center.
Dogs and cats can be adopted now for a $0 fee. Animals are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered.
Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
“Currently, our nation’s animal shelters are in crisis because there are too many pets coming in and adoptions cannot keep up. Euthanasia rates are at a three-year high, Adoptable pets are at risk due to space constraints,” said Kathy Bissell, founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “The Bissell Pet Foundation’s fall national shelter emptying initiative provides an opportunity for communities to save lives through adoption, while creating space in shelters to help more pets.” Even if you can’t, you can still save a life by becoming a foster parent. We’re counting on all of us to protect pet rights across the country.”

“This is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to adopt such a diverse range of pets,” said Shelly Delafsey, shelter supervisor. “Our shelter has dogs and cats of all colors and ages. There’s a pet to suit every lifestyle. We’re happy to help you find the perfect pet. BISSELL Pet Foundation and Cathy Bissell are true heroes in sponsoring these pet adoptions, and we are honored to be a part of this event for the second year.”
The Bissell Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” event is the nation’s largest funded adoption event. The event began in 2016 with the goal of encouraging more families to choose adoption. To date, more than 283,000 pets have found friendly homes during this event.
