The Department of the Interior is particularly active in Nevada, and for Nevada ranchers, a positive relationship with the Department is critical to the health and prosperity of small farms. Under President Trump, Interior Secretary David Bernhardt spoke to ranchers at a Trump rally about the department’s interactions with ranchers.
Mr. Bernhardt recalled that during a meeting during the confirmation process, Sen. Chuck Schumer countered Mr. Bernhardt’s concerns about Western states by saying, “There aren’t that many people there.”
“What I said back to him was, ‘The people who live there are just as important as the people who live in New York City.'” And this is what you vote for and vote for. Are you thinking about that? This is what really matters in my opinion. You are voting for the future of your community, and you are voting to establish a group of people. People who care about you, care about what you do, and care about the future of your community,” Bernhardt said.
His anecdote illustrates the difference between the left and the right, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. One side is not supposed to care about small family farms, and the other side is not supposed to care about the uplifting of American farmers.
