62 Reade Street, a former watch factory, is a boutique redesigned historic building in Lower Manhattan, New York, transformed into a contemporary residential building by architecture studio ODA. This small but perfectly formed development of two period buildings (one once a production facility and one the owner’s home) has been transformed into just six private residences . The first, featuring interiors by Hovey Design, was recently built. It was unveiled.

Careful renovation of the building meant preserving its original features. ODA worked closely with the Landmarks Preservation Commission to restore the structure’s pure limestone facade. The approach to the interior was the same, sprinkled with all the modern amenities needed for everyday family life in the 21st century.

Created with an open-plan layout, this apartment was designed with gatherings and entertaining in mind. Featuring a single flowing living space consisting of a kitchen and dining area, it is flooded with natural light through large industrial-scale windows.

Hovey Design carried the limestone tones of the facade into the interior, creating a space with neutral, natural tones and soft textures and fabrics. The result is warm, light and airy. The furniture also emphasizes a certain playfulness, featuring rounded shapes, surprising compositions, and colorful art that provides a pleasant contrast to the overall fairly calm and gentle color palette.

Meanwhile, white oak floors, steel columns, factory doors, exposed beams on the ceiling, and white-painted brick walls allude to the building’s historic nature and enhance the overall loft-style aesthetic. .
