GRAND FORKS — Grand Forks Fire Department personnel rescued a resident and her pet trapped in an apartment fire.
According to a statement from GFFD, on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7:15 p.m., firefighters were called to 2816 S. 17th St. for smoke and flames. When they arrived, smoke was coming from the second floor apartment.
“There were also several reports of people trapped inside apartment buildings. Firefighters immediately began searching for residents trapped inside the building. Firefighters located one resident and several others,” the statement said. pets were removed from the third floor.”
Although the fire was quickly extinguished, it still caused extensive damage to the complex. Eight tenants were evacuated overnight and received assistance from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.
GFFD responded with five engines, one truck, one command vehicle, and 17 personnel. Artur Ambulance, Grand Forks Police Department, and Red Cross assisted.
In its announcement, GFFD reminded residents of the importance of operational smoke detectors.
