The demands of parenthood can be overwhelming, and the pandemic has exacerbated these challenges. Meet with other teacher parents via Zoom to share ideas and strategies for tackling research and writing while raising children.
Fall 2024 schedule
Thursday, October 16th, 12:00pm – 1:00pm – “Managing and Understanding Power Struggles” features invited speaker Jill Rosenthal, MSW and parenting coach.
Power struggles can occur throughout early childhood. They manifest in a variety of ways, including brushing teeth, eating, dressing, and expressing requests. Rosenthal explains how to better understand what children are communicating when they engage in these behaviors.
Monday, November 23, 12:00pm to 1:00pm – “This is how we do it: Strategies for finding time to write (without feeling guilty) while raising a family” featuring Professor Emeritus Diane Wolfe .
Having babies, toddlers, and young children takes up your time almost 24/7. However, the academic clock does not stop forever, and at some point faculty must return to research and writing. For those on the tenure track with very young children, this poses some serious challenges, especially if childcare fails or the child becomes ill. wolf investigates
Discuss with teachers the strategies they have found helpful in facing these demands and navigating the guilt they feel when being pulled in different directions.
Wolf, who is the convener of the Teacher Parent Support Group, is also available for one-on-one confidential counseling. Please contact dlwolf@ucdavis.edu.
