Eva Mendes opened up about her approach to parenting in a rare interview.
The American actress, 50, who has two children with actor husband Ryan Gosling, became emotional, holding back tears as she spoke of how much she hates “yelling” at her children sometimes.
The Hitch star, who is of Cuban descent, also said she does her best as a mother to not raise her children in “fear.”

“As a mother, what do you think has been the hardest pattern to break?” Mendes was asked during an appearance on Dr. Shefali’s “Parenting & You.”
“I scream because…I don’t scream when they need me. I never screamed, ‘Shut up,'” Mendes explained.
“It’s not in my heart, for example, a ‘mean’ shout, but it doesn’t matter. I scream, and it’s this shout that I feel is so civilized.

“I’m having a hard time getting through it without screaming. Rushing and screaming, that’s the hardest thing for me.”
She added that as she grew up, she believed she grew up through “fear.”
“My mother was definitely a very loving and wonderful person, but it definitely raised us in fear,” she said.

“I hope I don’t look back in 20 years and think, ‘Oh, I got shot…’ But I don’t want to lift my heart up in fear. That’s the problem. I’m sorry, but I got emotional. Because it’s very unfair to the children.
“I hope I’m not unknowingly putting pressure on them through fear like I was raised to do,” she added.

Mendes previously took a step back from Hollywood to focus on motherhood, but recently said she might return to acting.
She and her husband reportedly began dating after co-starring in 2012’s The Place Beyond the Pines. .
