BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — A chance to dress up and feel beautiful after surviving domestic violence or cancer.
The 9th annual New You Beauty Social empowers local women through fashion.
Event founder and domestic violence survivor Angel Lee shares her passion for helping people overcome abuse. Sugar Daddy owner Heidi Shubin has been providing clothing to survivors at the event for nine years. Domestic violence survivor Emily Miranda will also be participating in the event. Fashion show to boost her confidence.

Founder of New You Beauty Social, Angel Lee, is a survivor of domestic violence herself and says her passion for helping others overcome abuse led her to start New You Beauty Social. He gave it to me.
Angel Lee said to me: “In my relationships, I’ve had to dress down or dress up depending on what the other person thinks. Then I lose track of who I am.”
Sugar Daddy owner Heidi Shubin has been donating clothing to domestic violence and cancer survivors at events for nine years. She told me that after experiencing abuse, she wanted to feel her best self.
Heidi Shubin says, “When I go back to work with my mom, get dressed, put on makeup, and feel and look beautiful, even if I’m trying from the inside out, it helps to start on the outside.” ” he explains.
While some survivors watch or participate in the fashion show, Emily Miranda appears on the runway.
Emily Miranda said, “I’m so excited. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I feel confident in myself for the first time in a while.”
In different family situations, she suffered verbal and psychological abuse from her mother for six years.
“I got kicked out. I’m only 19,” Emily Miranda said.
She had a son and lived on the streets for several months.
Emily Miranda admits, “Now that I’m a mother, I know I shouldn’t do something like that to my child.”
The New You Beauty Social, an event with filled gift baskets provided by donors, is a way for her to reconnect with herself and feel the confidence she needs.
Angel Lee says: “Women, children and men, have a good time. Love them.”
Tickets are $10 and the event will be held at Bottle Shock Wine and Brew on Saturday the 19th from 4 to 6 p.m.
