Emma Roberts’ father Eric Roberts expresses regret over losing custody
Emma Roberts’ father Eric Roberts has given an inside look into his relationship with his daughter, describing it as “the most difficult period” of his life.
Dancing with the Stars contestant Julia Roberts previously apologized for taking this step after years of estrangement, but on Tuesday, Oct. 22, she apologized on the podcast Inside of You. In the episode, he shared his thoughts on family relationships.
He explained: “Probably the loss of my relationship with my daughter. There’s no pain, but there’s sadness over a misunderstanding that will probably last forever, because we’re human.”
The Pope of Greenwich Village star reflected on his adulthood in light of losing custody of his daughter amid a battle with addiction.
Eric, who welcomed a daughter with ex Kelly Cunningham in 1991, has spoken out about his “sadness” over his estranged relationship with Emma, saying, “Having a grandchild has made me realize that about myself as well. “I’ve started to accept it,” he said.
Citing similarities with her oldest granddaughter, who “looks like Emma,” she admitted, “So it reminds me of what I didn’t have.”
Eric didn’t hesitate to publicly apologize to Julia in his memoir, Runaway Train, or the Story of My Life So Far.
This comes after he told Vanity Fair in an exclusive interview in 2018 that he takes credit for his family’s success in Hollywood.
He wrote in the book, “I hope Julia accepts this public apology.”
