While some people enjoy the opportunity to customize their space from top to bottom, especially with IKEA hacks, others don’t want that. Of course, this second group appreciates the hard-won updates, but that doesn’t mean they’re motivated to do the work themselves.
If you’re wondering which group designer Emily Henderson belongs to, it turns out it’s the latter. “I’m by no means an expert at hacking IKEA,” she says. “I’m always in awe of the people who create the coolest things out of IKEA furniture.”

But even if Henderson was more comfortable styling a space than building it from scratch, that doesn’t mean all Ikea hacks are off the table. We asked her about her favorite projects featuring popular Swedish retailers. She delivered a low-lift but definitely transformative project. “One of the hacks my team and I did was on Tulbagh wooden bed frames,” she says.
If you’re someone who primarily admires IKEA hacks rather than trying them out, this is the DIY equivalent of dipping your toe in a pool. Make sure you’re using the staple gun to secure the batting and fabric in place, and watch your fingers as you complete the job. Who cares if you’re not a DIY pro? You can still rest assured with a headboard as comfortable as this project promises.
