BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Fill your home with the scent of the holidays with this simple stew pot recipe.
A stew pot is a healthier, more natural approach to filling your home with scent.
All you need to do is add water and aromatic ingredients and heat over low heat.
Lifestyle expert Jennifer Satterfield said she often makes simmering pots during the holiday season.
For a holiday flavor, Satterfield recommends using apple cider as the base for your braising pot and tossing in a few sliced oranges.
Next, she suggests adding your favorite holiday spices, like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
“Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to a boil,” Satterfield explained. “Leave it on the stove for 2 to 4 hours.”
Satterfield said it’s important to always pay attention to the simmering pot.
Once the liquid starts to evaporate, add more base.
For a fresh, clean scent that clears your sinuses, use water (about 4 cups), sliced lemon, eucalyptus oil, and vanilla extract.
“When I’m really done with it, I drain it and I actually put it in a mason jar and store it in the fridge,” Satterfield added. “You won’t get rid of all the lemons because they’ll last you a week. In fact, you’ll be able to boil them at least one or two more times.”
