LITTLETON, Colo. — The sights and sounds of Halloween can be a little spooky for our four-legged friends, and one local training center on Sunday hosted an event to dull their senses.
At Dog Training Elite in Littleton, we’ve hosted a “Pawn Shop” to make your trick-or-treating experience a little smoother.
Denver 7 chased a dog named Charlie around the room. The Hood family adopted him about a month ago.
“We noticed when we went for walks later in the day that he was a little scared of creatures and noises,” Michelle Hood said.
During the sensory event, Charlie put on his brave face (and the cutest spider costume) and made his way through.
“I think it’s a good experience for him. It’s a controlled environment,” John Hood said.
Each room featured several skills dogs can learn, such as fetching and guarding. As the dogs walked down the hallway, they heard scary sounds and saw interesting costumes.
Bart Ballard, owner of Dog Training Elite Denver, says one sound that many dogs don’t like is the doorbell.
“Most dogs react to that because it’s their territory. They might bark a few times a day, but if they’re barking 20 times a night because you’re handing out candy, it’s not good for them. is a huge burden,” Ballard said. . “Dogs can experience zombie graveyards, scary stories, and different textures and objects on the floor.”
The event took place Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Customers had free admission, and other customers were asked to make a $5 donation to the Every Percent Matters Foundation.
