Even if middle school was decades ago, shiny things are fun. To make your Halloween decorations even more fun, use any excuse you can to make some glittery pastel skeletons. Follow TikToker @stephanieullah’s lead and check out three skeletons painted in faded orange, soft pink, and lavender. She used three medium-sized skeletons, giving each one a thorough coat of spray paint and adding patches of matching colored glitter to the faces and various bones. Combining fine and coarse glitter textures and adding holographic sparkles took the look to another level. Load up your shopping cart with a plastic skeleton, some spray paint to adhere to the plastic, and some eco-friendly glitter in a few different textures and make this craft your own.

But wait! Glitter is surprisingly harmful to the environment. Most glitter becomes microplastic in nature and will fall off of whatever it is decorated with. Luckily, adult responsibilities don’t have to ruin all the fun when biodegradable glitter exists, like Unicorn Sparkle Association’s Biodegradable Glitter. You can also find earth-safe chunky glitter, like Hemway’s biodegradable glitter, which comes in several chunky sizes. If you have a clear conscience, these glittery guys are the kind of spooky seasonal decor you’ll want to find a way to use all year round.
Set some skeletons to glitter
TikTok user @stephanieullah’s color choices are definitely worth copying, but there are many other clever color groupings for spooky and cute Halloween decorations beyond just black and orange. Keep the pastel theme with misty greens, faded blues, and pale lemon yellows. Or try a combination of dusty pink, peach, and cream for a subtle start to decorating your home for Halloween. Bones painted in different shades of one color also look impressive, like gradients of gray, green, and even the traditional orange. If you want a brighter look, avoid fluorescent pastels like neon pinks, greens, and purples.

Add your own twist to this adorable project by replacing the medium-sized skeleton with one giant skeleton, mini wreaths, individual bones, hands, feet, or skulls. Paint chunks of bone and attach them to a wreath as part of a Pinterest-perfect fall porch. If you want fun without the mess, replace the glitter with glow-in-the-dark fluffy paint. You can use a set like Tulip’s glow-in-the-dark paint kit to create an array of rainbow colors. Layer thick stripes of glow-in-the-dark paint with glitter for the best of all worlds. Paint acts like glue and the effect is dazzling.
