Delta Air Lines wants to improve the passenger experience even before the plane leaves the ground.
The airline, which celebrates its 100th anniversary next year, announced Tuesday that it is embarking on a “nose-to-tail” redesign of its cabin interiors. The refresh includes new seat fabrics and materials, mood lighting throughout the cabin and memory foam cushions in some cabins.
The interior renovation comes after the company, which was hit hard by July’s global CrowdStrike outage, reported a 26% drop in third-quarter revenue.
In a statement, Delta Air Lines said the refresh was the result of extensive research into “customers’ changing expectations and lifestyles” and emphasized its commitment to “elevating the travel experience.” As passenger complaints soar in 2023, low-cost airlines like Southwest Airlines are also looking to offer consumers a more premium aviation experience.
“As we embark on the next century of flight, this all-new cabin interior is fresh, elevated and timeless, while injecting practicality and beauty and reflecting our customers’ evolving tastes and expectations. ” said Mauricio Parise, Vice President of Customer Experience Design.
