Curt Cignetti’s Indiana team will be one of the biggest surprises in college football in 2024, and perhaps even the biggest surprise in a season that has already had an incredible run in just seven weeks. Dew.
The first-year Hoosiers head coach has led Indiana to No. 16 in the latest AP poll, with a perfect 6-0 record. This Saturday afternoon, Indiana hosts Nebraska 5-1 in a friendly noon ET slot on FOX at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.
But what happens when the Hoosiers aren’t at home? What about long road trips, which have become more of a reality than ever as the Big Ten has expanded from its Midwest roots to the California coastline and the Pacific Northwest? Indiana University already played UCLA this season. In the Rose Bowl, the Hoosiers defeated the Bruins 42-13.
Cignetti’s team still has short trips to Michigan and Ohio State this season, but he displayed his traveling warrior mentality during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday. Sininetti is not suitable for long-term travel plans such as road trips. He prefers to get there in the shortest possible time, play the game and come back.
“I’m going to arrive as late as possible and get up and play the game,” Cininetti said. “I got to the hotel around 8 o’clock at night, ate some food, and went to bed. … I got up, played around 3:30, kicked their butts, and went home.”

We arrived at the hotel around 8pm, had dinner, and went to bed.
I woke up at 3:30, played, kicked their butt, and went home.” 😂😂 ~ @CCignettiIU #PMS live pic.twitter.com/jARrKljNZD

Cininetti’s bold answer made his fellow showgoers burst into laughter, but he was just being his usual honest self.
