Conan Gray has released a moving new song titled “Holidays.” The song depicts the nostalgia and complexity of returning home during the Christmas season.
In contrast to the influential ’80s pop of his third LP, Found Heaven, this latest release is a low-key, acoustic-heavy ballad that the pop sensation describes as “a song about friendship.” I am doing it.
Elaborating further on his inspiration, he said: Something about the atmosphere, the brooding music, the family, and all the expectations. But most of all, it’s witnessing the passage of time. I got closer to old friends and realized I might just be “catching up” forever now. I’ll never be 17 again, living in the same town and waiting for winter break to end. ”
Continuing, he said: “This song expresses that feeling of moving back to your hometown, watching it change little by little, and then one day, when you look around, your city is no longer your city. I wanted to make it.” But one thing that never seems to change is your friendship. You can leave for six months, but the moment you return to Texas, it’s like no one is gone. Order the same food, drink the same strong coffee, have the same laugh forever. That’s what gets me through the holidays every year. ”
The new single is the band’s first new music since the release of ‘Found Heaven’ in April, and made its live debut during Conan’s sold-out show at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden. He is also scheduled to perform his ongoing world tour in the UK next month, with three sold-out shows scheduled. Find out where he’s playing and listen to “Holidays” below.
