Dan Walker and Charlotte Hawkins will host two programs packed with soothing classical music and practical advice from the RSPCA to help calm your pet during fireworks season.
Classic FM’s Pet Classics is back in 2024 to help keep pets and their owners calm during the bright lights and loud sounds of fireworks season.
Charlotte Hawkins will host the first show on Saturday, November 2nd. And on Tuesday, November 5th, Dan Walker will make his first appearance on a program aimed at relaxing furry (and feathered) friends on Bonfire Night, followed by his second appearance on the program. I will serve as the moderator.
Both shows will air from 5pm to 9pm and will coincide with the busiest night for the fireworks show.
While this time of year may be fun for us humans, it can be a stressful and frightening time for our pets. That’s why we have once again partnered with the RSPCA to create a program to provide vocal sanctuaries for animals across the country.
Both Pet Classical programs have been specially selected to feature the most soothing classical music to calm nervous pets and anxious owners. Many of the musical choices are animal-related, including Saint-Saëns’ “The Swan,” Elgar’s “Mina,” his last work named after his cairn terrier, and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17. Masu. Mozart had a pet starling, whose songs were featured in his concertos.

Set to soothing music, Charlotte and Dan read aloud a personal dedication to the listener’s pet. Last year, we received thousands of photos of pets and animals who would feel at ease participating in the program, from dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters to horses, turtles, hedgehogs, goldfish, snakes and spiders.
Charlotte Hawkins said: “It’s always a great pleasure to host Classic FM’s Pet Classic and welcome everyone, snug or squishy, into our radio oasis. One of my favorite shows to present this year. is.
“We know that classical music has positive effects on humans and pets alike, and we’ve seen it in action through thousands of photos and videos of listeners’ pets relaxing and snoozing. In fact, this is the only show I want my audience to sleep with the radio on!”

Dan Walker, host of Classic FM Breakfast, said: “I’m looking forward to joining Charlotte and the Pet Classics team this year. I love classical music and I love animals, so what more could you ask for? My dog Winnie is a Cockapoo, and she loves fireworks. I know it can be a problem for thousands of pets and animals.
“We created Pet Classic to provide a sanctuary filled with the most relaxing music when the fireworks are at their peak. If you, like me, are new to Pet Classic, Please come and join us.”
Carrie Stones, RSPCA campaign manager, said: “Listening to Classic FM is a simple but highly effective way to help animals. I’ll be sure to tune in with my two dogs too. Our rescue centers and branches is.”
