It’s been a whirlwind four weeks of shows, celebrities, and competitive street style peacocking. The season began with US First Lady Jill Biden swinging at Ralph Lauren’s extravagant show in New York’s Hamptons, and ended with Kylie Jenner closing out the Coperni show at Disneyland Paris. But while the ready-to-wear collection won’t hit stores until next spring, and most items come with four-figure price tags, there are some catwalk-inspired pieces you can implement now without needing a lot of cash. There are a lot of adjustments. Or at all. Here are eight to get you started…
new hi-lo mix

I find that when it comes to fashion, opposites really do attract. Who would have thought that a yellow rain mac and a silver cocktail dress would go so well together? Madame Prada and Raf Simons, who is that! The unlikely pairings at the Spring/Summer 2025 show reflected the disruption created by the proliferation of internet-driven microtrends and cores. Burberry’s Daniel Lee also captured the chaos bug by layering a fluffy hoodie over a sparkly party dress. For those lucky enough to get tickets to see Oasis next year, take note. The perfect combination for a rainy British summer night.
Double the socks
Valentino’s event attracted attention.
For Alessandro Michele’s Valentino catwalk debut, models wore lace tights under slingback shoes and pointtail ankle socks. (Sorry Gen Z, but it seems Millennials were on to something.) There are already plenty of ruffled ankle socks on sale on the high street, and they’ll come in handy as we head into the colder months. To make pom poms like the ones that adorned some Valentino styles, dig out your old thread and fork and follow this DIY tutorial.
fluff the collar

Emilia Wickstead gave a preppy shirt an unexpected and sultry twist by adding a faux fur collar. To copy this trend, visit your local fabric store and ask for the fuzzyest fabrics to add tactility to your tired-looking polo shirt.

Vetements has been disrupting fashion norms for the past decade. For the latest show in Paris, creative director Gram Gvasalia (Balenciaga’s Demna’s brother) continued the tradition by choosing to leave labels and security tags on his streetwear-inspired pieces. Flaunting an anti-theft tag may be a styling overkill, but at least the next time you leave the care label untucked, you can confidently claim it was a styling decision.
pimp the trainer

Coach made the most of his trainer accessories, decorating his scruffy white kicks with charms like cassette tapes and miniature models of vintage cars. You might not want to ruin your teenage crush’s mixtape, but by adding small charms and kitschy souvenirs, or replacing the original shoelaces with striped laces, you can give them a grungy look. You can also make your trainers look stylish. Check out online retailer The Shoe Race’s walking boots section for a plethora of colorful options.

Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2025 show.
Ralph Lauren’s Hamptons show featured a number of outfits with equestrian flair. One option is to make a belt using a snaffle bit, but if you want to go even simpler, just style two leather belts together. Secure one slightly above your hips and lower the second.
Ergonomic bag handling
Toteme.
Toteme is the Swedish brand that created the now ubiquitous scarf coat. So when models paraded down the latest catwalk wearing scarves over tote bags, it was clear that this niche trend would soon seep into the mainstream. Other models were seen clutching their shoulder bags rather than swinging them around on ball joints, and some had the bag straps wrapped around their wrists like bracelets. On the other hand, at Gucci, the shoulder bag was hung horizontally under the armpit.
increase suit size

Next season will be all about supersized suits, according to Saint Laurent. Get ahead of the curve by looking for XL blazers in the menswear section of your local charity shop. Following catwalk style, place a striped shirt under a baggy blazer, roll up the sleeves and secure with giant gold bangles. Again, your local thrift store or online shop is a great starting point for affordable costume jewelry.
