The McAlester Buffaloes football team (4-1, 2-0 in district play) will travel to the Tulsa suburbs to take on the East Central Cardinals (2-3, 0-2 in district play) on Friday night at 7 p.m. .
McAlester continued its undefeated streak in district play with a 60-6 victory over Tulsa Edison at Homecoming last week. The Buffaloes’ offense, led by junior quarterback Cassin Washington-Masey, who was named McAlester News-Capital Player of the Week, was completely unstoppable in all phases.
Washington Maisey had a season-high 253 passing yards and five touchdowns, and junior running back Jordan Clark had 116 yards and one touchdown. However, there were high hopes for McAlester’s offensive depth in this game, as sophomore wide receiver De’Vion Bickham gained 95 yards and one score.
Meanwhile, East Central suffered its second straight loss last week against Durant, 41-19. Trailing 35-0 in the second quarter, junior QB Ryder Munninger found senior wide receiver Vesion Arps in the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown, giving the Cardinals the victory. However, the goal conceded in the first half was too much considering the possibility of a comeback.
McAlester and East Central have met four times since the start of the new decade, with the Buffaloes winning by an average margin of 47.5 points. McAlester won 43-13 on the road in last year’s matchup, and the Cardinals haven’t won a series since 2012.
Kickoff at Eastside Sports Complex for Friday night’s game is set for 7 p.m.
