This week’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” focuses deeply on parenting. This topic became very timely last week after Whitney Rose revealed a health scare regarding her daughter Bobbie.
Whitney posted on her Instagram Story on October 6th that 14-year-old Bobby was hospitalized with “severe asthma exacerbation.” She asked fans for “prayers and good vibes.” Four days later, on October 10, Whitney posted, “Bobby has been released from the ICU and is recovering at home.”
There was a sweet moment this week when Whitney and her husband Justin were dropping off the kids at soccer practice, when Bobby asked Whitney about her second earring. Whitney tells Bobby that he needs to set a goal to do something to earn that piercing.
In her confessional, Whitney said the piercing was a sign of Bobby’s growth, and that as a mother she wanted to delay the inevitable.
“The sanity of childhood, I want to preserve that for as long as possible,” Whitney says.
This week also featured Brittany’s ex-boyfriend Jared Osmond appearing on camera for the first time, a zipline adventure, and Whitney’s preseason comments (Lisa Barlow is the “bad guy” on Housewives). There is growing evidence that this is possible. It has some validity.
Bronwyn’s big news
The newest cast member, Bronwyn Newport, meets Lisa at Fika Reflexology Bar, a foot spa in Riverton. While getting foot massages, the two talk about the bombing that happened off-camera as they boarded a flight home from a trip to Milwaukee.
As the pair talked about the moment, Lisa commented that Bronwyn’s 17-year-old daughter Gwen looked like her mother. Bronwyn disagrees, saying Gwen looks like her father, and submits the only photo Bronwyn has of her daughter’s father.
First, the backstory. In both Confession and Lisa, Bronwyn talks about when she was pregnant with Gwen. She was 18 years old and a sophomore at Brigham Young University. She went to visit her then-boyfriend’s parents, who were Latter-day Saints in a small town in Utah, and said they “gave me a lot of responsibility.” She had no intention of repeating to Lisa the name her parents called her. (Family names have been edited for broadcast purposes.)
Bronwyn’s parents proposed that she told everyone she was going to “study abroad” for a year and then go have a baby and put her up for adoption. Bronwyn gave birth to Gwen instead and raised her alone, without any involvement from her father. (Gwen’s father died when she was two years old, and Bronwyn said she found out about it after seeing a comment about his death on Facebook.)
Bronwyn said in a confessional that giving birth to Gwen was “the best thing I ever did, but so many people thought it was the worst thing I ever did.” I thought so,” he said.
There was a bomb here. After seeing a photo of Gwen’s father, Lisa tells Bronwyn that she is friends with his family, his grandparents, whom Gwen has never met.
During a foot massage, Lisa tells Bronwyn that she spoke with Gwen’s grandmother and she returned with a two-word message: “It’s time.”
Bronwyn told Lisa, “I’m having a hard time reconciling this wonderful family that you know with a family that hasn’t made the time to see my child for 18 years.”
Later, Bronwyn and Gwen talk over crumble cookies, and their initial “it’s about time” attitude seems to have faded.
“It wasn’t very loving,” Gwen said of her father’s contact with his family. Gwen tells Bronwyn about a text message from her father’s mother that they can meet “only if Gwen is ready to have them in her life.”
Bronwyn tells Gwen that she has struggled for years about how to raise Gwen without her father. Bronwyn said: “Raising Gwen was more than enough for me, so I felt like maybe I could find a way to make it enough for you.” I don’t think that’s fair to you, Gwen. …Of course you will feel the absence. ”
Gwen admits to feeling conflicted, not wanting to feel forced to start a relationship with her father’s family, but not wanting to miss out on the opportunity to have a heart-to-heart.
In a confessional, Bronwyn explained what keeps her up at night: “Gwen is the only person in this scenario who hasn’t made any choices, and who is feeling the weight of all these choices that everyone else has made for her.” It’s just her.”
Angie and Lisa talk about parenting
There is an ongoing dispute between Lisa and Angie Katsanevas over their parenting skills. It all started with an argument at the group’s final dinner in Milwaukee. Lisa accused Angie of bringing up her daughter Electra when she wanted to avoid a difficult conversation.
Angie and Mary Cosby talk about their argument after a dance lesson at the Millennium Dance Complex in Trolley Square (where they happen to meet Heather Gay’s daughter Georgia). “I’m a devoted mother,” says Angie. “I came home for my daughter. I’m there for her because my mom wasn’t there for me.”
Meanwhile, Lisa and Heather meet at another spa facility in Pleasant Grove, the Purify Wellness Center, and have tea in the salt cave. The room is lined with 16 tons of Himalayan salt, which has “negative ion healing properties,” the guide explains. .
Heather tells Lisa about a conversation she had with Angie after dinner in Milwaukee. Angie defended Elektra’s parenting, adding, “I don’t let her sit and play games until 2am.” This clearly delves into the relationship between Lisa and her 12-year-old son Henry.
Later, when Lisa, Heather, Mary, and Brittani Bateman went on a zipline adventure at Utah Zipline near Deer Creek Reservoir, Lisa was still thinking about Angie. “She implied that I was a bad mother,” she says.
Mary has her own parenting moment, and in a brief conversation with her adult son Robert Jr., he asks her for money. Mary says in her confession: I also want him to get a job. …Lord, bless him. ”
real life brittany and jared
After four episodes in which he was mentioned and discussed, viewers finally met Brittani’s boyfriend, Jared Osmond, again.
Before that, Brittany tells Whitney and Heather, who were leisurely skiing at Woodward Park City Sports Park, about the giant flower arrangement Jared sent the cast when they returned from Milwaukee. Brittany (at Lisa’s urging) tells him via text that she wants to meet him in person to make up for breaking up with him.
The two met at the Block Restaurant in Provo, and Jared says he was upset that Lisa had read their private text conversations.
Brittany accuses Jared of not being able to act. She asks direct questions. “Will you please make me feel safe?” And do things that are uncomfortable for you to make me feel safe? ” She took his answer as “no”: “I gave you everything I could.”
Later, after the zip line, Brittany calls out Lisa for interfering. Brittany tells Lisa that she wants to remain friends with Jared and says, “What you did could have ruined it forever.”
whitney detective work
This week’s episode is titled “Whitney Drew and the Clues,” and follows Whitney as she tries to figure out who is spreading rumors about her jewelry business.
The first clue was a phone call from the Milwaukee hotel where the cast was staying. Someone left behind prism jewelry that Whitney gave to the entire cast. Whitney realizes it is Lisa.
Later, Whitney talks to a podcaster she knows. That person knows the person who posted the rumor that Whitney’s jewelry line gets its products from cheap vendors.
The poster did not say who reported the rumor, but did answer the podcaster’s questions. It wasn’t someone with a jewelry line of her own (Meredith Marks is cleared of suspicion), but someone with a liquor brand–Lisa, after all.
“It means I have friendships that may not have been real to begin with,” Whitney says in a confessional.
