A woman who shared the homemade outfit she made to wear to her stepdaughter’s wedding has been harshly ridiculed on social media.
The dress, inspired by a $1,673 gown by British fashion designer Stella McCartney, was deemed a “total train wreck” by members of a wedding shaming group on Facebook.
In the post, the woman explained that she wanted “something really special to wear as the stepmother of the bride.”
Although she couldn’t afford the actual Stella McCartney dress she first found on Pinterest, she tried crocheting her own version.

“Do you think this will work? Only my family will have seen that dress.”
Other members of the Facebook group were initially supportive, praising the woman’s craftsmanship, but the comments then turned vicious.
“The situation got worse as I scrolled down. A bra showing under ill-fitting underwear. And it’s a crappy copy of someone else’s dress,” one person wrote.

“350 hours! That’s two and a half months of full-time work,” said one person.
“Ma’am, your time is worth more than that. People are crazy.”
