Berg points out that consumers should book their vacations by October 14th, when they can get the cheapest airline tickets for their vacation trips. She added that prices for holiday travel will go up after Halloween.
She also encouraged travelers to be flexible with their travel dates, explaining that they could save about $200 per domestic ticket just by having flexible travel dates for Thanksgiving and Christmas. These holidays are the cheapest days to travel, but the Monday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Monday before Christmas Eve are also the cheapest times to fly, she explains.
There are usually more delays during the holiday season, but Berg recommends purchasing disruption assistance when purchasing tickets. This allows you to rebook on the next available flight without incurring additional charges if your flight is delayed or cancelled. If possible, she also recommends planning a buffer day in case of disruptions during your trip.
Travel Deals Tuesday (Tuesday, Dec. 3) is just around the corner, and Berg explains that this is the best day to secure great travel deals during the post-Thanksgiving holiday season .
