The St. Joseph Catholic School parking lot was filled with students, parents, parishioners and pets who gathered to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi last week.
The Catholic Church has a feast day to honor St. Francis every year. St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals and the namesake of the Franciscan monastic tradition known for charity, selflessness, kindness, humility, self-discipline, and love for all creation. Masu.
Father Rick Thomason led the assembled crowd in a short prayer and reading from Genesis before blessing the pet crowd with a sprinkling of holy water.
“May God, who is wonderful in all His works, guide us, show us His love, and reward us with the blessing of His pets and animals on this day,” Thomasone prayed.
Students who were unable to bring their pets to the blessing ceremony brought pictures of their pets blessed by Mr. Thomasone.
