President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Berlin on Friday for talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, but the plan was postponed due to Hurricane Milton, officials said.
Mr. Biden’s trip will be a shortened version of his original plan and will no longer include a stop at Ramstein military base, where the president was scheduled to meet with world leaders to discuss aid to Ukraine, officials said. Plan under the condition of anonymity.
Biden is expected to receive the highest civilian honor from President Frank-Walter Steinmeier while in Germany, officials said.
It is unclear whether British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron will participate in Biden’s meeting with Scholz, the people said. They were part of the original plan to bring together the leaders of the so-called “Quad” from both sides of the Atlantic.
The White House declined to comment.
Biden’s previous itinerary had him heading from Europe to Angola to visit the continent and deliver on his promise to build a multilateral infrastructure investment plan to counter Chinese influence.
Biden has publicly announced his intention to reschedule his visit to Angola, telling reporters last week that the visit would be arranged later but he needed to focus on hurricane recovery efforts.
