DEDHAM, Mass. — If you’re planning a plane trip this holiday season, now is the perfect time to book your trip.
“This week is known as the cheapest week of the holiday season, so you should book your flights this week,” said Terry Strauss, owner of Dedham Travel.
Strauss has been booking trips with Dedham Travel for nearly 50 years, and says this is one of the busiest weeks of the year.
If you’re flying for Thanksgiving, you can find the cheapest flight prices 45 days before your holiday, according to Google Flights’ travel reports.
This means the best time to book is Monday, October 14th.
“This is true. My phone has been ringing since 9 o’clock this morning with people trying to get off for Thanksgiving and Christmas,” Strauss said.
After this week, she says, ticket prices will only start to rise for the holidays.
If you want to save money, her best advice is to be flexible with your travel dates.
“If you can keep kids out of school for a few days, like Monday of Thanksgiving week, it’s going to be cheaper than keeping them out of school on Wednesday,” Strauss said.
When it comes to Christmas travel, Google’s prices are lowest 58 days before Christmas, so it’s a good idea to book your trip by late October.
Strauss says flexibility is key.
“If you can go, Christmas Day is generally the cheapest time of the year, when most families don’t want to travel,” Strauss said. “If you can come back on New Year’s Eve instead of New Year’s Day, the prices will be lower.”
If you’re flying this holiday season, Strauss strongly recommends purchasing travel insurance.
That way, if you have to cancel at the last minute, you can get your full amount back.
