The capybara, who shot to fame after escaping from its cage and going on a week-long escapade, has belatedly celebrated its first birthday.
Hundreds of visitors visited Telford’s Who Zoo and Dinosaur World on Saturday to see Cinnamon and her younger brother Chulo celebrate their first birthday with a pumpkin birthday cake.
She famously escaped through an open gate due to a “keeper’s mistake” after being startled by a grass cutter at the zoo on September 13.
While on the run, Cinnamon, now one year old, retreated to a nearby forest, but after an intensive search, she was found in a pond.
Park co-owner Will Dorrell said Cinnamon and Chulo both enjoyed their belated birthday parties.
“She certainly looked like she was having fun,” he said.
“Over 500 people came to celebrate with her, almost twice as many as at this time of year, and it was a huge success all day long.”
Her adventures have inspired memes, merchandise and songs, and Dorrell said “Cinnamon products are flying off the shelves.”
