At least 87 people were killed or missing in Israeli airstrikes in northern Gaza from Sunday into the night, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Strip Health Ministry.
The airstrike took place in the town of Beit Rahiya, which was one of the first targets of Israel’s ground invasion nearly a year ago.
At least eight children are reported to have been among the dead.
The Israeli military says it has used precision weapons against Hamas targets as a large-scale operation against the regrouping insurgents continues.
Meanwhile, the Israeli government announced on Saturday that a drone targeted the home of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with no casualties.
“Today’s assassination attempt on me and my wife by Iran’s Hezbollah proxy was a grave mistake,” Prime Minister Netanyahu said.
In a telephone conversation with US presidential candidate Donald Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that Israel would act in its own interests.
At least 42,603 Palestinians have been killed so far in Israeli retaliatory attacks against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Sunday.
The ministry does not distinguish between civilians and combatants, but the United Nations and several humanitarian organizations consider casualty numbers to be broadly reliable.
According to the ministry, more than half of the deaths were women and children.
The war was sparked by an unprecedented Hamas attack in southern Israel last year that killed around 1,200 people.
