JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio — A “Bark in the Park” was held Sunday, giving furry friends a chance to have fun.
“You often hear about it being a pet-friendly event, but this event is not only pet-friendly, it’s human-friendly,” said Brandi Denoon Damwood, development manager for the Humane Society of Jefferson County.
This is a festival dedicated to pets, where dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes can participate and have the opportunity to visit 25 different outlets with their owners. Attendees will also see a police demonstration for kindergarten through 9th grade, participate in a hot dog eating contest, participate in a low-cost vaccination clinic, and see Sherlock Holmes and Dog Pool among the top winners. They were also able to participate in a costume contest.
“This is really important because our community needs us,” Denoon Damwood said. “We all come together to take care of our pets, so it’s not just animals in shelters, but animals in captivity as well, and having healthy animals is so important. is.”
The event will feature all adoptable pets from local rescue groups and the Jefferson County Animal Shelter, as well as several animals, including boxer Ozzie I was adopted.
“We found out about him on the website and we were the first ones here this morning,” Chrissy Reese said. Madison Reese, Ozzy the Boxer’s new owner, said: “We originally had a white boxer, but he passed away. I’ve always had a very close relationship with boxers, so I decided to get another one.” I wanted to put it in,” he said.
The third annual community event held at Jim Woods Park allows dogs to get outside and meet others while also helping those in need of a new home. can. The Jefferson County Humane Society says they hope to continue this for years to come.
“It feels like every year it gets bigger and bigger, and we want to keep it going every year,” Denoon-Dumwood said.
