Hundreds of people are expected to gather in Penticton on October 28th and 29th.
Members of the B.C. Domestic Nurses Union are in Penticton for two days in preparation for collective bargaining and contract negotiations.
Nurses from the East and West Kootenays, Okanagan-Similkameen and Thompson-North Okanagan will gather in Penticton for a two-day meeting to plan the negotiation agenda.
BCNU President Adrian Geer said, “Our union bargaining conference was a great opportunity for participants to identify common challenges, share experiences, and highlight key negotiating priorities in preparation for next year’s Nursing Bargaining Association provincial contract negotiations. “This is an opportunity to identify issues.” Across Interior Health and across the state, there is another example of nurses being routinely left alone to compensate for a lack of employer resource planning, doing their best to provide care. This is a very worrying trend for nurses. ”
The previous round of negotiations included wage increases, nurse recruitment and retention incentives, and other significant benefits.
The meeting in Penticton is one of six to be held in various health authority regions across the province from October to January 2025.
Nearly 400 nurses from communities across Penticton’s Interior Health will participate from Oct. 28 to Oct. 29, with a rally planned for Oct. 29’s lunch break to highlight calls for change. .
The rally will be held outside the South Okanagan Events Center.
