New Delhi: The Delhi government has started the process of setting up automated fitness centers at five locations across the city. These centers will be located in different areas such as the north, north-west, west, south and south-east of the capital.
The Department of Transportation is seeking applications from businesses interested in installing and operating automated testing stations. Applicants may be individuals, companies, or organizations.
The move is aimed at improving the current situation in Delhi, where there is only one automated fitness center in Juljuri. At Burari, we conduct manual fitness tests. The introduction of these new equipment is expected to benefit both light and heavy commercial vehicles. It has become mandatory to carry out compliance tests on these vehicles at automated test stations.
A senior official said automated fitness centers are designed to minimize the possibility of manipulating the system to obtain fitness permits. The official added that this is an important step towards ensuring road safety as non-compliant vehicles plying on roads are known to be the main cause of accidents. The government hopes to reduce the number of non-compliant vehicles on the road by implementing a more rigorous and transparent compliance inspection process.
India has recently seen a sharp increase in accidents involving unqualified commercial vehicles, with these vehicles estimated to be responsible for nearly 40% of the 190,000 road fatalities in 2022-23.
The official said the concessionaire will have to provide the number of tests conducted along with the vehicle number to the transport department. It added that operators will also be required to submit a 30-second video of their vehicle being inspected at the center.
The Expression of Interest (EOI) issued by the ministry states, “Each auto testing station will be staffed and supervised by a motor vehicle inspector or government official with equivalent qualifications on behalf of the GNCTD, Ministry of Transport.” It’s dark. Another official said that during the contract period, the selected applicant will have to collect and appropriate vehicle inspection fees from the public for the specific service of carrying out vehicle fitness tests in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Regulations. said. Any attempt to misinform the authorities or failure to comply with the instructions of the policies, rules and guidelines laid down by the Government of India and the Government of NCT of Delhi may be grounds for termination and cancellation of the contract or license. officials warned.
